Going to the chapel in Valley Forge

By Mara 7 Comments

Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Park Since it’s June, I thought it would be appropriate to share this photo of the boys on our recent visit to Valley Forge National Historical Park. Sitting on the steps of the National Patriots Bell Tower, they are eagerly awaiting the bride’s appearance from the chapel next door. I never would have thought they would care about such a thing, but my girlish heart delighted in their interest!

When she finally emerged and climbed into that Hummer limousine, they waved furiously as she and her new husband pulled away (we later discovered that they had simply pulled around the back so they could pose for pictures inside).

I’ve got lots to tell you next week about our day in Valley Forge, which included historical reenactors, a bit of failed geocaching, and lots of history lessons. But one of my favorite parts of the day was our visit to this lovely chapel. In fact, I liked it so much that I’ll leave you with a parting photo of one of its doors.

Door in the Washington Memorial Chapel Valley Forge What are you up to this weekend? If you’ve got some travel coming up I hope you’ll check out my post over at Momtrends; I offer tips there about how to pack lightly (but stylishly).

For Photo Friday at Delicious Baby.

Isn’t it amazing the things that capture their attention sometimes? There are so many little things that they’ve seen while travelling that they’ve been intrigued by that I never would have thought to have shown them.

Stunning shot! I sat on many a cannon in Valley Forge as a kid, so I remember it well. I also got married right near the Park at an old train station. Oddly enough, that same day some white supremacists were protesting in a corner of Valley Forge (my dad had found this out on the news), so I was glad we were not planning on heading in for pictures. The train station provided plenty. Had I remembered about that little chapel though, I might have done differently. I can’t wait to take my little guy to Valley Forge on one of our visits back east. It seems like a right of passage for kids in the tri-state area.

Love the shot of the door. Zooming in on architectural details like this often seems to result in some of my favorite images!

We had a fascinating tour of the Chapel given by one of the Chapel’s docents during our visit. They are not always available, but worth trying to arrange in advance with the Chapel office.
