I wanted to try something a little different with my last Monday dreaming post of the year. Instead of writing my own visions of a faraway place today I’m going to share the writing of some of my favorite travel bloggers who have been places I’d like to go but haven’t yet visited. This is my own version of a “Best of 2008” list – a list of posts that inspired me by people who love to travel with their children as much as I do.
Wandermom wrote about going to Peru with a toddler, including a trip to Machu Picchu, something I’d love to do but would not have considered attempting with children before reading her post. I love her note about ways to improvise on the road (complete with a very cute photo).
Debbie at DeliciousBaby has been all over Spain with her two little ones and as always has lots of practical tips to share about visiting Barcelona, Madrid, and Sevilla. I could use some of those churros and chocolate right now.
There are so many fantastic (and often hilarious) posts at Travel Savvy Mom that it is hard for me to choose a favorite – so I picked two. Cape Town for Kids includes a great list of family-friendly activities in and around a city that is definitely on my must-visit list. I would especially love to take my kids to see the penguins. Another post I really loved was about purchasing a stroller in Stockholm (not a good idea apparently). I know a Scandinavian trip is definitely in my family’s future.
My online friend Liz writes a slightly different kind of travel blog at Liz, Tobi, Lukas, &Alex’s Adventures. She’s an expat mother of two little boys currently living in the Netherlands. She is an ambitious day-tripper and I love her stories about exploring the little corner of the world she currently inhabits, especially the one about “Oogstfest” – a Dutch equivalent to a county fair.
And although they don’t blog about traveling with children (because the authors don’t have their own) I wanted to make sure I mentioned Almost Fearless and Teacher Meets World. I’ve really have been enjoying the former’s stories at about journeying as a solo woman in Mexico and Central America, especially her most recent one about learning Spanish in Guatemala. Monna at Teacher Meets World has been spending her holidays in Budapest and has shared some glorious photographs.
Of course, these are just a few of the blogs I love to read. To explore more of my favorites, please check out the list of Travel Sites in the right-hand column. Maybe you’ll find some travel dreams of your own.
