As the growing season winds slowly to a close, I’m thinking about all the great local eating I’ve done this year. I didn’t get to canning like I’d hope this fall (blogged instead) but I do have a freezer full of local tomatoes prepared in various ways. I’ll be making and freezing a vat of winter squash soup this weekend. And on the road, from Paris to Pennsylvania, I’ve established a habit of seeking out places that serve foods from local producers. Case in point: The Farmer’s Diner in Quechee, Vermont. Almost everything on the menu here comes from with 70 miles.

Cool looking restaruant. I am such a fan of eating local. Comfort food tastes so much better when fresh and local.
Love the funky diner!
I’ve been trying to be better about seeking out locally grown and produced food in the local grocery stores and produce markets. They’ve gotten much better at a couple of the places where I regularly shop about posting the origins of food and highlighting local products. Those are the places where I try to spend most of my grocery money.
We managed to get up to a farmer’s market last weekend and pick up a bunch of Michigan veggies.
My kind of place. I had this crazy scheme that I would do an eat local B&B as my retirement job, growing some of the food on the grounds of the place as well.
