My dream is of a family-friendly trip to the Hotel Crillon Le Brave, which is located in a hillside village about 25 miles from Avignon of charming nursery-rhyme fame. The hotel is actually not one building, but seven restored stone houses that are about 400 years old (can you feel those flagstones under your feet?).

The rooms look airy and elegant and I know that the boys would love the fact that the building are connected by bridges, alleys, and passageways, perfect for pretending to be medieval knights or just playing hide and seek.

For spring break, the hotel is offering a five-day family package that includes a junior suite, breakfasts and dinners, along with morning activities for kids including French lessons, cooking courses, and a visit to the local market (oh how I love to imagine Tommy and Teddy heading off with baskets over their arms to scout out the finest in fresh fruits!). While the children are having fun, grownups can indulge in massages or other spa treatments out in the Provençal air.

In the afternoons we might rent bicycles and ride them bouncing along the cobblestones, kayak on the Sorgue River, or go for a hike on Mount Ventoux to work up an appetite for dinner.

So my dream this Monday is of linen sheets and lavender sachets, of croissants and pétanque, of sipping wine while sitting here:

Unfortunately we won’t be jetting off to Provence this spring break. Since Easter is so late this year, spring break interferes big time with the Little League season. I’ll certainly enjoy sitting in the bleachers watching my two little players, but there is a part of me that will be drifting off to the village of Crillon Le Brave.
