Road trip adventures Twitter chat

Our car, headed home This summer was full of road trips. We covered a lot of territory, from Milwaukee to the North Woods of Wisconsin and back down to Lake Geneva; from Delaware up the East Coast to Portland, Maine; across the Kancamagus Highway through New Hampshire’s White Mountains to Central Vermont; and down the New York State Thruway to home.

We were piled in the car yesterday with three weeks worth of clothing, treasures ranging from syrup to homemade pickles that we picked up at the Waitsfield Farmers Market, and our four dusty bikes bouncing on the rack behind us. We snacked on fresh carrots and sandwiches, chatted about the start of school, tried (unsuccessfully) to find a radio broadcast of the Little League World Series, and watched the miles accrue until finally after nine hours in the car we pulled into our driveway to be greeted by passing neighbors and friends.

Road trips like this, while perhaps not always a pleasure (I’m not sure that anyone actually enjoys driving the length of the New Jersey Turnpike) are a fixture of my family’s traveling life. We bicker and laugh, we snack and we doze, we pass the time together waiting to arrive at our destination, eager adventurers all.

So I hope you’ll join me for a Twitter chat sponsored by OnStar on Thursday, August 22 at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m PST as I talk about road trips with two of my favorite family traveling blogger friends Carol Cain of Girl Gone Travel and Jennifer Miner of The Vacation Gals. We’ll be chatting everything to do with road trips and giving away some fun prizes including two $50 Visa gift cards, a first aid kit, and a $225 Marriott gift card. To join in, simply use the hashtag #OnStarRdTrip.

And I’d love to hear about your road trip adventures – where did the road take you and your family this summer?

Disclosure: OnStar is compensating me for my participation in the Twitter Chat.

I know exactly what you mean about the bickering, snoozing and also loving it :) We often go for a road trip to the south of the UK (we’re in the North). However, the weathers not always great, but we always have a great time :)
