New York or Versailles?

Admiring a mural of the garden at Versailles

I love this picture of Teddy admiring a mural of the fountain behind the palace at Versailles (how satisfying to see paintings of places one has been!) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You may have noticed in my post on Monday that Tommy was absent from our New York adventure. It was just the three of us because or the first time on a family trip, Tommy chose to stay at home for a middle school dance. He had a wonderful time sleeping over with some friends, but the whole thing has me thinking a great deal about what lies ahead for my traveling family and how things have changed since I started this blog. I’ll be sharing more about that next week as well as some stories from New York. And I have a great giveaway coming up from Preferred Hotels – be sure to check back for details. Meanwhile, here are some travel items that caught my eye recently:

It may not be original, but I’m a complete sucker for pictures of Paris. This amazing series of Eiffel Tower photos from Beth of Beers & Beans does not disappoint. In other Parisian news, here’s an interview with the guy who wrote what I think is one of the best restaurant guides to Paris (my own copy is thumbed through and dog-eared).

We loved the ski school at Keystone Resort; a review from Amie at CiaoBambino! explains why the programs at the Kids’ Ski and Ride School are so great.

Love this post about raising outdoors-loving kids from Michael at The Big Outside. Have you read my review of his book?

I think that Jessica at Suitcases and Sippycups is more organized than I’ll ever be, but maybe I can learn from her post on how to teach kids to pack. (I’m a sucker for any solution involving index cards).

And what else was I up to this week? I wrote about keeping kids engaged in history while visiting Philly at AOL Travel. And I also shared tips on what to do if your child isn’t crazy about ski school at the Mountain Reservations blog. (And if these topics interest you, see more of my Philadelphia content and lots more downhill skiing stories and tips.)

This weekend I’ll be hanging out with blogging friends in Portland and Seattle. I’ve never been to either city and I can’t wait! I’m sure I’ll be posting lots of Instagram photos (especially of my food) so be sure to follow me there or on Facebook. Have a great weekend.
