Out of this world donuts in the Outer Banks

Duck Donuts in the Currituck Outer BanksIf you’re like me, when you think beach vacation, you think donuts. Am I right?

Well, OK, maybe I’m the only one, but good donuts definitely equals happiness and happiness is what I want when I’m relaxing, and so I can therefore conclude that donuts + beach trip = very happy Mara. And I’m happy to report that Duck Donuts certainly helps deliver on their end of the equation if you happen to be vacationing in the Currituck Outer Banks. Here’s how:

You walk in and order your donuts, choosing from the array of icings and toppings.

Hey! Those are my donuts! Here is what I liked about these donuts: The texture is perfect – pillowy enough to sleep on. And, perhaps most importantly of all, their sweetness comes almost entirely from the toppings, which are applied generously.

You’ll find Duck Donuts in four Outer Banks locations – we visited the one on the main drag in Corolla, about two minutes from the house we rented. I’m thinking that were we to spend an entire week there we might have had to make a donut stop every day. Maybe on the way to the beach. You know, to fortify us for all that sand-castle building.

I do have a suggestion: Check the donuts in your box before you leave the shop. When we got back to our beach house we found that four of the six were not what we ordered. But frankly, they were so delicious, that it didn’t matter one bit.

(I say that it didn’t matter because I got the one I chose, which had maple icing and shredded coconut on it. Oh. Yeah.)

There’s more yumminess to be found at Wanderfood Wednesday, so be sure to stroll on over there and check it out. To learn more about our trip to Corolla, see my other posts about the Outer Banks.

This post is part of a blog tour organized by WeJustGotBack.com‘s Moms2Go Alliance on behalf of the Currituck County Department of Travel & Tourism. I was reimbursed for some of my travel expenses.
