Dreaming of the Currituck Club

If you’re heading for the Currituck Outer Banks, I definitely recommend that you consider staying in a house because you’ll have so many options if you do so. In fact, it can be a little overwhelming even in the small and somewhat sleepy town of Corolla to figure out which house is just right for you and your family because there are so many rental homes to choose from. I’d like to propose a simple solution to that dilemma: A stay at the Currituck Club, which offers a wide variety of furnished houses with the added bonus of amenities that you would typically find in a resort. Our weekend there was so pleasant that today I find myself dreaming of returning for another visit.

Decorative sign in our Currituck Club rentalWe found lots to like in our three-bedroom house, which had kept us all comfortable and happy. I loved the free wi-fi and the whirlpool bathtub in the master suite, and the boys were thrilled that their room had not one but two bunk beds (no arguing about who got the top bunk).

Kitchen in our Currituck Club rentalIt had a fully stocked kitchen – I looked through every cabinet and drawer and couldn’t find a thing missing – and a nice closet full of board games that made even a rainy evening fun.

Living room in our Currituck Club rentalThe boys also loved the small pool out back. They just couldn’t come to the beach without getting in the water at all, and since the ocean wasn’t swimmable for the duration of our stay, I was really grateful that they could at least hop in here. Even Matt got in on the action on our first morning there.

Pool at our Currituck Club rentalWe also had our choice of using several larger swimming pools at other locations in the Currituck Club, but since no one wanted to be in the water for more than a few minutes, our house pool was just fine. The community has a number of amenities that would be really nice to have on vacation including an 18-hole golf course, a driving range, a fitness center (which also has pool, ping-bong, and bocce), tennis courts, and a playground. During the summer months a trolley is available to take you throughout the club or over to the beach.

It also would be easy to bike throughout the entire club, as it’s connected throughout by one road and is full of lighted paths. If we had stayed longer I’m sure the boys would have had us checking out every nook and cranny.

Village Realty handled our rental from start to finish and everyone who works there is just a nice and friendly as can be. I recommend availing yourself of the help to be found there in locating a place to stay. The lovely Krista talked to me about what my family’s needs were and worked to help us find just the perfect house for us. We arrived after the office was closed and as promised found our welcome packet with instructions and the codes for both the community gate and the front door waiting. Our house was spotless, with made-up beds and plenty of towels waiting. And checking out is a breeze, since there aren’t even any keys to worry about.

We stayed in the Magnolia Bay area, which is on the southern end of the Currituck Club. This was a great location for a variety of reasons – the Currituck Outer Banks Visitor Center was a few minutes from our front door, and there we were able to pick up a free map, get dining recommendations, and find out the best places in Corolla to head with our bikes. There was also a seafood and beach rental shop right there and beach access was right across the street. The rest of Corolla (including a really nice grocery store that is located just in front of the club’s main fitness center) was an easy five- to ten-minute drive away and if we had wanted to head south to Duck or the dunes in Kitty Hawk, we were on that side of town. If you really want an oceanfront property, than the Currituck Club isn’t for you – the entire stretch sits on the Currituck Sound side of Route 12, which is the main north/south route through the Outer Banks. But we found it easy enough to get to the beach and liked the fact that the community felt tucked away and a little bit sheltered from some of the wind and unpleasant weather during our visit.

Renting a house is also the most economical option in the Currituck Outer Banks, especially during the offseason. In fact, if you think a fall visit to the Outer Banks would be fun, you can find a house likes the one we stayed in at the Currituck Club for as low as around $800 for a week. The water is warm and the weather can be really nice this time of year!

Today I’m dreaming of a return to the Currituck Club – this time for an entire week. What about you? Please feel free to share your Monday dream below.

This post is part of a blog tour organized by WeJustGotBack.com‘s Moms2Go Alliance on behalf of the Currituck County Department of Travel & Tourism. I was reimbursed for some of my travel expenses. Also, Village Realty was kind enough to cover the administrative and cleaning fee for our house to make it affordable for a weekend rental. 1. I’ve got the grandparents sitting on the couch and we are already starting the conversation about heading back to the Outerbanks next year. Last time I was there Dek wasn’t even born yet! Thanks so much for sharing your memories and keeping a beach vacation dream alive for the rest of us.

  2. Sounds lovely! Once you start staying in rental homes it becomes soooo hard to go back to tiny hotel rooms! :)

  3. I happen to be dreaming of Village Realty and our upcoming week in Nags Head. I found your blog through VR. Can’t wait to read more!
