[...] Among other programs, the resort has worked to eliminate AIDs in the Bahamas, to put swimming pools and playgrounds in local schools, and to support Junkanoo. These last are dance troupes, deeply important to the Bahamians, who are similar to the Mummers and who make their own costumes and perform in parades on Boxing and New Years Day. We were in fact lucky enough to experience some Junkanoo ourselves, as it was an award-winning troupe from the Claridge Primary School in Nassau that led us from a celebratory brunch over to the opening of the AKA Club.
It was so great to meet you - and your absolutely awesome son.

That image of him standing proudly in the horse costume with his face made up is forever etched in my mind as one of the great moments of the entire trip.

There are meal plans, I heard about some but I can't quote them specifically.

I didn't really think about the AKA club from a tween parent perspective, but I do see your point. Although there was a huge patio behind the kitchen where they showed me that games were available. The Lego table was set up out there. I understand why they can't take the kids in the water/to the beach from liability perspective.

I know Jojo would have had a ball in the 3-5 area, he actually wanted me to leave him there the next day but we had other stuff to do. But your take makes me wonder if there is an age that wouldn't have been as enthusiastic about being left at AKA.

Kara - Great questions all, and I will be dealing with some of them in future posts. But to respond quickly, I don't think that Atlantis bills itself as "all-inclusive" although they do offer different room-and-airfare packages (these include the use of the large waterpark and all the pools), which have children under 11 staying for free. I know that they are also working on creating some packages that include some of the things we did on this trip as part of the cost of staying there as well. The LEGO camps that they will be offering this summer would fall into that category.

You can stay and pay a la carte for the resort's restaurants, but this a very expensive option - meal plans are definitely the way to go. The special they are running right now offers a Casual Dining Plan for $75 per day for adults and $35 per day per child or a Gourmet Dining Plan for $115/per day for adults and $50/per day for children. The choice of restaurants is limited for each of these plans and they include breakfast and dinner. In general was not wowed by the food there and will have more to say about that in later posts.

They don't allow adults who aren't on staff in the AKA Club, so the only option is to leave your child there. And honestly, with so much else to do with your child, I don't know why you'd want to hang out there with your kid (unless you're a video game junkie!).

I suppose $45 is a relatively good deal for child care (with AWESOME amenities!) if you did want to take a morning snorkel excursion, grown-ups only.

However I'm accustomed to going to and writing about all-inclusive resorts where kids' clubs are complimentary. Of course, they don't always have all the techno bells and whistles (that said, the playspace/kids'club at Azul Sensatori on the Riviera Maya is excellent, packed with Fisher Price toys, a gym and lots of arts & crafts - that don't use batteries or electric cords).

Does the Atlantis have an all-inclusive meal option? Or are restaurants strictly a la carte?

Another question - can you go to the club and use the facilities while supervising your child and not pay the fee? Or pay reduced fee? Or is it all or nothing?

(I suppose I could go look on the website, but I like to babble here...)

Thanks for insight!
