The Mother of All Trips started in June 2008, as my family was preparing to go on a two-week trip to Paris. Really though, it started five years earlier, when my husband Matt and I spent 13 months traveling with our then one-year-old son Tommy. I wrote a book about that experience, and you'll also find that lots of the stories from that time turn up here. Throw in my many dreams of places I'd like to visit, the day trips we often take, and a host of posts about the best places to eat ice cream and you'll find there's a lot to read.

Halloween treats around the globe – UPDATED

I originally published this post  on my old blog last year and thought I would offer an updated version for this Halloween. Of course, you’ll have to wait until Halloween night for pictures of the children in costume, but I hope that the suspense makes you return. My oldest child is somewhat famous around these [...]

Mondays are for dreaming: Ladurée

Mondays are for dreaming: Stoke Newington

October makes me nostalgic for London, which I’ve only ever seen under autumn skies. In particular it makes me long for what I’ve come to consider my own little corner of the city, the “village” of Stoke Newington where Matt, Tommy, and I spent a month six years ago. Stoke Newington isn’t a tourist destination [...]

Mondays are for dreaming: Tea, peace, welcome, Vermont

Usually my Monday Dreaming posts are all about words, but for a change today I thought I’d focus on a dreamy photograph instead. I’ve been saving this one up; I took it on an atypically hot day at the Waitsfield Farmers Market in August. There are many things I love about this picture: The poetry [...]

The Mother of All Trips around the Interwebs

I’m putting my feet up and taking it a bit easy this week, after my marathon of NYC and Road Trip Tip posts. But I did want to share a two articles I recently published elsewhere – just in case you need your MOAT fix. If you’ve never checked out A Traveler’s Library you’re in [...]
