PS: On the Indiana Turnpike, there was an exit (going west only) to an Amish park, called Sweet Potato Patch. Within 2 miles, I think, and replete with working farm, water mill, stone mill, and LOTS of grass to roll in -- perfect for kids (and Kids at Heart)!! Check it out:=}

Hi, there,

Our daughter Rachel put us in touch with you Mondays are for Dreaming blog!

It so brings back many pleasant memories of the 11 summers we drove -- 2 adults, 2 girls and 2 mismatched doggies -- from NJ to ID by way of CA or Canada!!

Rachel and her sister could give you similar reviews -- those mid-day lunch breaks refreshed us greatly and saved out sanity, for sure. Get her to tell you about the time we were in the southwest and couldn't find a park so we lunched a la Our Town in a local cemetary with the only tree(s) in a 200 mile radius...

Great photos and start your memory book rolling!

Too funny! We used to joke about how we should write a book about the rest stops along I-10 from Florida to California because we had stopped at all of them...of course then we found out that book had already been written!

So I showed these pictures to my travel partner just now, and my son is sad there's no road stops like this on the Interstate for our road trip this week. The sad thing is that here in California they tend to close more rest stops than actually improve any. We'd love a playground like that at a public rest stop.

Oh, Mara, now you've brought back memories. Every summer from when I was 6 until I was 18, we would drive from NJ to ID to my dad's family's summer place in McCall. We became proficient in rating the rest stops along I-80, and from memory, I recall that Indiana had special honors for having consistently good quality rest stops - clean toilets, decent grass, etc. We saw some beautiful views of America from a variety of stone picnic benches in those years... Thanks for the meander down memory lane (or memory interstate!).
