Yes we did all of those things a few years ago on our family holiday to Bercelona - we stayed in a campsite on the edge of town by the beach and took bus trips into town. The children especially loved the cable car and it was in the Miro museum that I realised the power of the audio- guide to keep childrens' attention in museums and galleries.

Love your new look, Mara - it's got me thinking, I'll have to put a bit more work in on mine!

Barcelona is also on my bucket list. Like you, I'd love to see the fantastical Gaudi architecture!

We went to the fabulous Barcelona! exhibit at the Cleveland (Ohio) Museum of Art a couple of years ago. It included art, architecture, literature, history, political events, etc. from mostly the mid-1800s through the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. The book that went with the exhibit is massive...and was well worth purchasing.

We went to the Basque country a few years back. The food there was wonderful--much better than what we ate in Paris. Lots of fish and, as we were there at harvest time, lots of great produce.

Dominique’s last blog post..Red Cedar Grill in Michigan a must-stop for carrot cake fans

Barcelona is gorgeous. Anthony and I went there on our honeymoon - three months after the wedding. We took the train from Paris to Marseille, rented a car and drove through southern France and down the coast to Barcelona. It was an amazing 10 days - the coast is littered with ancient Greek and Roman ruins, because they were trading outposts back in their respective days - fascinating.

Barcelona itself is a fantstic city with excellent Mediterannean lifestyle. You're right - the Gaudi houses are amazing. I totally recommend going to Parque Guelle, which was a planned commuity designed by Gaudi. The boys would love running around the estate!

Thanks for bringing back some very pleasant memories, Mara - hope you all get to Barcelona soon!

am I the only one old enough to be hearing Three Dog Night in my head now? "Well, I've never been to Spain, but I kinda like the music......"

I haven't been there either. The mediterranean area is my dream vacation -- mostly Greece, but if I could do Spain and Italy, too, all the better. Loved this post.
