And no, I’m not talking about my husband.
It’s not often that I see something and then feel an immediate need to write a blog post about it, but this video is an exception. It comes from a blog called Where the Hell is Matt? You can get his full story here, but basically Matt is a slacker who eventually got his sofa and decided to travel the world. On a lark he started filming himself dancing in a variety of locales. After finding fame online, he decided that maybe he should start involving some other people in his movies. These are the results.
I have been trying to formulate an argument about why traveling is important even in the face of our terrible economy and trying times. To me this video is the perfect answer. I found it both inspiring and moving. So here’s to Matt, wherever he is and wherever is going. And here’s to making 2009 a wonderful year of exploration and change.
I've taken with my children and those I want to take. Explore and you'll find family travel tips, information about vacation destinations, and lots of stories about our adventures!

Mara,
This video is a great choice for the first day of the new year. No matter how many times I watch it, I still end up with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I love the joy of it. Happy New Year!
I love this video.
I believe an economic downturn is the best time to travel. Everyone is so worried about making money and stuff losing value. Well leave it behind.
Why fight for a job that is at risk, when you can choose to travel? If your career & earnings are stalled, what a great time to travel. Plus you can live much cheaper elsewhere if you are careful. When you come home in a couple of years it will be much easier to get a job.
How can you not love Matt or world travel? I think it is even more important today for families and our young global citizen’s of the 21st century.
We so loved Matt’s videos that we decided to do a homage to it during our open ended world tour.
We even did a take off of his title and made it PG for families, “Where in Heaven is Mozart”:

We will soon upload part2, which covers our second 18 month phase.
2009 is actually a great year to travel with bargains galore. We travel the world on just 25K total costs for a family of 3, so find it much cheaper than staying home!
I LOVE this video, I posted it on my blog in the summer…
Great blog… I need to go read more.. I used to live in Wilmington..many many years ago… (went to highschool there…) : )
