Passports with Purpose: Giving thanks, giving back

I’ve already sledded for an hour and will be devouring a stack of pancakes shortly before venturing back out in the snow again. The family is here, the children are rosy cheeked, and I’m generally feeling grateful for the grace and generosity of the universe that lets me come to Vermont with the people who mean the most to me in the world. I know that my dad will be putting the turkeys in soon (yes, that’s right, he cooks two turkeys because we have 22 people coming for dinner) and the house will start to smell delicious.

All of this gratitude makes me want to give something back to those who don’t have enough to eat at Thanksgiving or any other time of the year. That’s why I’ve decided to participate in Passports with Purpose, a travel-blogger driven fundraiser for Heifer International, a nonprofit organization that seeks to eliminate hunger and poverty around the globe. You can learn more about Heifer here.

Travel bloggers everywhere have rounded up amazing prizes to raffle off with the proceeds going directly to Heifer International. I’ve got an awesome prize that I’ll be raffling off (my big reveal will be on Monday) and there will be lots of other prizes as well. For each donation of ten dollars, you will be entered to win a prize of your choice. I’ll hope you’ll come back on Monday to get the details and the link to the donation site – and I hope you’ll make donations to win some swell prizes! The founders will pull winners and notify them via email on December 30th. Want to know more? Visit Passports with Purpose.

Thanks to some of my favorite travel bloggers for helping to coordinate this:

Debbie at DeliciousBaby

Pam at NerdsEyeView

Michelle and Beth at Wanderlust and Lipstick

And now I’m off to catch a bit of the of the Macy’s parade. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  1. Hi Mara,
Fantastic idea. I’ve signed up to help, too! My prize isn’t nearly as cool as yours, though. Thanks for inspiring me!
    Cheers,
    Liz
