Summer dreaming

For Photo Friday at Delicious Baby. A summer’s day on the shore of Lake Champlain with two little ones. We were hiking at Shelburne Farms and had lost the trail we were supposed to be following. A happy accident as it turns out, for we ended up having a picnic on this private beach. Those are the Adirondacks on the other side of the lake.

As summer winds down this week, I find myself dreaming as I often do of our times in Vermont. (I’ll also confess that I’m not a huge fan of my rear view in this photo but allowed all of the other things I love about it to trump my vanity.)

  1. Nice photo!
I sometimes like using a rear view shot when I want a closer view of a person in a photo, but don’t want to fool with the issue of photo release or something like that. Sometimes, as in your case here, it almost works better than if you’d taken a front-view shot.

  2. Ahhhh, I have been a bit remiss about summer ending and this photo captures it perfectly!

  3. Every time I see a cute picture of you with your kids, I think, “surely this is the last one!”

It seems you have an endless supply. I’m jealous!

  4. Aw, thanks Jamie. Wait until you see the batch tomorrow – Teddy had his face painted at the zoo today.

Dominique, I agree with you – one of the things I like here is that you can’t see our faces.

And Amber I just realized that I had two posts with the word “dreaming” in the title this week. Guess the workaday world and the end of summer must be getting me down!

  5. I agree that the “rear view” works for you in this shot… it’s up to us to imagine what you might be thinking (and it’s so hard to get kids all looking the right way at the same time)

I love the story too. I think so often we try to create these “perfect moments” for our kids (especially on vacation), when in reality we just need to let down our guard and let the moments find us.

It might be asking too much, but I hope that my kids childhood memories are filled with moments like this and not only the first time they met their favorite cartoon characters.

  6. Debbie – I’m with you on that 100 percent.
